Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with volunteering for the community. He was the youngest son of Lucious Selmon, and Jessie Selmon, who took care of him at the farm they owned in Eufala. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. During his three years as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and won two national titles. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth service consisted of ten hours a week of volunteer time in the college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. He also began his career in the field of business. By 1988, he became an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as among the top 10 youths in the US. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds when he was a student athlete. He captained the 1975 team. In 1993, he was appointed the assistant director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 and in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. Parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
